Kim R. Presby Champion of Labor Award and President’s Award Given to Geoff Bichler and Paolo Longo
Bichler & Longo, PLLC Founding Member and Managing Partner Geoff Bichler, and Partner, Paolo Longo, Jr., have both received prestigious awards from the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group® (WILG). Known as The First Responder Law Firm, Bichler & Longo represents Florida first responders in workers’ compensation; disability pension; wrongful death; personal injury; wills, trusts and probate; Florida Retirement System Benefits; and Social Security Disability Insurance cases
Geoff Bichler has been awarded the Kim R. Presby Champion of Labor Award. Created in honor of the late Kim R. Presby, the annual award is given to individuals who, like Kim, work tirelessly on behalf of injured workers. A stalwart supporter of labor and WILG, Illinois native Kim R. Presby passed away from injuries sustained in a plane crash in Florida in 2012. After his graduation from Vanderbilt University Law School and admittance to the state and federal bar in 1976, Kim began the practice of law with his father at Presby and Presby. After his father’s retirement, he became the principal owner of Presby and Associates, P.C.
Presby was past president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and a member of Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Workers' Compensation Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar, American Trial Lawyers, Workplace Injury Litigation Group and Kane County Bar Association founder of the Workers' Compensation Section. He was an advocate for injured workers and continuously lobbied the Illinois State Legislature on their behalf. His peers voted him a Super Lawyer, Leading Lawyer, and Top "100" Trial Lawyer. Since 2008 he has co-authored the Lexis-Nexis Illinois Workers' Compensation Book
“I am gratified and humbled to receive this award recognizing a commitment to labor,” Geoff Bichler states. “Sometimes as lawyers in the workers’ compensation arena we lose perspective on how our work has a broader impact on working people. This award must be shared with everybody in my firm; they show up to work every day to continue the fight for justice for disabled first responders. Our prayer remains that our efforts will continue to have a broader impact on the health, safety, and welfare of working people everywhere.”
Paolo Longo, Jr. is the recipient of the President’s Award, presented to individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy GroupⓇ. The President’s Award recipients are selected by the president of WILG.
“I am truly grateful to President Bill Smith,” says Paolo Longo, Jr. “Not only for his service to this organization, but for his friendship. It is an honor for me to represent the weak against the powerful and I take great pride in being a voice for the voiceless. It is a privilege to be a member of WILG and to be recognized for doing something I love.”
Geoff Bichler and Paolo Longo, Jr. will receive their awards during a WILG ZOOM Brunch meeting on October 6.
